Leadership Coach
Dr Alistair Grant graduated from Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga, in 2010 and began his career in general mixed practice in Dubbo, NSW, before spending time locuming in the UK. He joined Stabler & Howlett Veterinary Surgeons in Mackay, Queensland, in 2014, initially taking a 50% share in the practice with his wife, Tish, before they purchased the remaining half in 2022. Today, the general mixed practice has a team of around 25.
Early in his career, Alistair focused heavily on clinical expertise, attaining ANZCVS Memberships in Small Animal Surgery and Veterinary Radiology, as well as a Graduate Certificate in Ultrasonography through the University of Melbourne. Over time, however, he came to realise that far more could be achieved by developing the whole team than through any individual skill. This shift has shaped his approach to leadership and practice ownership, with Stabler & Howlett now thriving whether or not he is physically in the building.
A graduate of the Lead to Succeed program and member of the Lead to Succeed coaching team, Alistair is passionate about helping practice owners and leaders create greater freedom, confidence, and opportunity through effective leadership. He has also taught final-year radiology and third-year surgery at James Cook University and enjoys helping people grasp new concepts and skills and put them into practice.
Outside of work, Alistair splits his time between Mackay and Brisbane, where he is based to support his wife Tish’s career. His core values are learning, integrity, loyalty, and striving for excellence, while his personal mission – to create opportunity – sits behind both his practice and his coaching.
