Leadership Coach
Matt O’Donnell graduated from the University of Sydney in 1992 and spent his early career in mixed practice before moving into small animals and exotics. After developing a keen interest in small animal surgery, he became a member of the Australian College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2008 (Small Animal Surgery Chapter).
After entering a business partnership, Matt came face to face with the challenging realities of running a small veterinary business. He has seen first-hand what works and what doesn’t. With this knowledge, he was determined to put together a team where everyone works collaboratively with a common purpose. In 2017, Matt opened Northern Illawarra Veterinary Hospital to put his ideas into practice.
Two years later, he discovered Lincoln Institute of Veterinary Business. He realised he shared similar values, with the advantage of Lincoln’s programs that produce successful veterinary businesses based on an informed and professional approach.
Matt successfully implemented the strategies he gained through the Lead to Succeed program, turning his single veterinarian practice into a profitable 3.5 veterinarian practice that now employs 18 team members. In addition, he now spends more time working on the practice than in it, having built a passionate veterinary team. Several team members have been recognised for their management practices through various Lincoln awards.
Matt looks forward to helping other practice owners and managers achieve their own goals. When not coaching, he’s kept busy with three children and his family’s beloved Cavoodle, Pepper. He also enjoys bike riding and surfing.
